A fine quality Georgian mahogany Canterbury Circa 1800, originally designed to store sheet music, these make excellent magazine racks for an elegant home.  This Canterbury is of well patinated mahogany with divisions for the sheet music or magazines, two of which are designed to slide out if required, and a nicely shaped carrying handle.  The corner posts are crisply turned, and there is a drawer beneath, with solid mahogany drawer linings, The piece has retained its original brass castors, which still bear traced of the original gilding.  This type of piece was being produced to designs by most of the best furniture makers of the period, and the quality and design of this piece is strongly suggestive of the well respected firm of Gillow of Lancaster.
