each of the 6 leaves is in a range of sizes from 15" (38) to 18" (46)
allowing the table to extend with great flexibility from a beautiful oval seating 4, 6 or 8,
up to a 161" nearly 13ft 6in (412)
seating 16 or 18 people
The existence of leaf holder is rare, and denotes the quality of the table when it was originally made - very few extending tables were made with a leaf holders, and even fewer have survived over the intervening centuries. This particular leaf holder is even more desirable in that it does not simply hold the leaves, but it fitted with display shelves to the front, a most unusual and useful addition. It means that not only can the leaves be conveniently stored in the baize lined cupboard concealed at the side, but the piece may be used to display items on the attractive shaped shelves, which are united by spiral turned columns.
